An alleged accomplice of former top-grade rugby league player Anthony Fowler has been charged over an armed robbery at a southeast Queensland pub.

Fowler, who had a short NSWRL career in 1994 with the now-defunct Gold Coast Seagulls, was arrested last month over his involvement in an armed robbery at a Goodna pub on March 19.

Police said two men threatened an employee with a gun before fleeing with cash.

Fowler and another man had already been arrested.

But police announced on Friday that a third man, 21, had been arrested over the incident, charged with serious assault, deprivation of liberty and armed robbery.

He was due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.

When Fowler fronted court last month, Magistrate Tina Previtera said there was no evidence to suggest he was one of the two men who physically committed the crime, but there was strong evidence linking him to its organisation, including SMS and Facebook messages.

He was remanded in custody and his lawyer, Adam Magill, indicated he would fight the charges.
