Elderly north Qld man dies in car fire

An 83-year-old man has died after being trapped in his burning car in north Queensland.

Crews were called to a car fire at Pelican Road near Ayr, south of Townsville, around 11.30am, an ambulance spokesman said.

They treated the man for burns to his lower body but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
