Elderly man dies in Qld car park crash

An elderly driver has died after collapsing at the wheel of his car and crashing into a tree at a Gold Coast shopping centre car park.

The 79-year-old man hit the tree at Robina Town Centre around 9.30am on Monday.

Police believe a medical episode may have caused him to accelerate into the tree.

The car's female passenger escaped unharmed.
