Dutton playing politics: Qld premier

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton is playing politics with human lives to defend the federal government's asylum seeker policy, Queensland's premier says.

Annastacia Palaszczuk's comments come after Mr Dutton accused her of encouraging people smugglers to send asylum seekers to Australia illegally.

"I am sick and tired of people playing politics with human beings, with human lives," Ms Palaszczuk said on Monday.

The premier said she suspected Mr Dutton was playing politics because neither he nor Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull had called her to raise their concerns.

By offering to accept asylum seekers in the state, she was only making the same offer NSW Premier Mike Baird and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews had made, she said.

The public spat came after federal authorities on Sunday transferred "Baby Asha" to a community detention centre in Brisbane, rather than send her back to Nauru.

Doctors had refused to release the one-year-old girl from Brisbane's Lady Cilento Children's Hospital after she'd recovered from burns, fearing she'd be sent back to the small Pacific island nation.

"The right outcome has been achieved here in relation to Baby Asha," Ms Palaszczuk said.

The Queensland Greens backed Ms Palaszczuk's offer of support and assistance for asylum seekers in the community.

"There are large numbers of refugees and displaced people in our region, and it is a very difficult challenge trying to ensure their safety both in the short and long-term," spokesman Andrew Bartlett said.

"But it is simply ridiculous to say that treating children and families already in our community with compassion somehow encourages people smugglers."
