Drug kingpin breached bail: court

An alleged drug smuggling kingpin is back behind bars after breaching his bail.

Joshua Thornbury, 30, faced Southport Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of fraud and possessing stolen property.

Thornbury and his older brother Terrence were arrested in April following police raids across the Gold Coast which netted over $1 million in cannabis and cash.

Around $10 million in assets were also seized.

Police allege the brothers were the masterminds behind a drug smuggling syndicate which used perfumed suitcases to bring drugs worth millions through Queensland airports.

The pair received Supreme Court bail in May but Joshua Thornbury will now stay in jail until at least December after police allege he had a fraudulent driver's licence issued shortly after his bail was granted.

Subsequent investigations also revealed several items of stolen property at Thornbury's house, although he claims he was merely looking after the items for a friend.

Magistrate Kerry Magee expressed her disappointment in Thornbury's disregard for his "strict" bail conditions and remanded him in custody.

The matter has been adjourned until December 17.
