Police probe dog kill threat in Qld street

Police are investigating anonymous letters threatening to poison barking dogs in backyards of an otherwise quiet Queensland cul-de-sac.

Ipswich councillor Paul Tully said residents of Brendan Place at Goodna, had received unsigned letters warning 1080 poison could be thrown over their fences if their dogs didn't stop barking.

"Is it your dog barking continuously (sic) nearly every night? Shut the f*** up or I will 1080 it," the note reads.

"I throw it in front and back yards (sic) in the whole street. One lick or bite and it's dead."

Goodna Sergeant Ian Stephens said police were aware of the letters, although no official complaint had been made.

The incident was unusual for the area and officers had been sent to the street to investigate, he said.

Cr Tully said he was approached by residents in the cul-de-sac who had received the letters and were concerned about poison baits being thrown over their fences.

"Neighbours are living in fear this madman could strike at any time," he said.

"Only a demented person with a twisted mind could instil this sort of fear into a community."
