Divers find body of Queensland boy struck by father's jet ski after crash

The body of a nine-year-old boy who was struck by his father in a jet ski accident in Queensland has been found.

Shane Parkes, 34, was riding the jet ski with his six-year-old son Dylan on the back, at a family outing on Lake Moondarra, about 15km north of Mount Isa, on Saturday, The Courier Mail reports.

The family's son Tobi was playing in shallow water and was struck by the watercraft after it crashed on the edge of the lake just before midday.

Mr Parkes sustained head and spinal injuries and the Dylan suffered spinal and leg injuries.

Both were taken to Mount Isa Hospital as police and locals searched for Tobi.

When they failed to find the boy police divers were called in but were delayed by a lack of flights to the remote town.

Members of the dive squad flew to Townsville on Saturday evening and drove to Mt Isa through the night.

The boy's body was found within half an hour of the team beginning their search at first light yesterday.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash but Mr Parkes is yet to give a statement as he is still undergoing treatment.

The father and son remain in hospital in a stable condition.
