Dad gets nine years for daughter's death

The father of three-year-old Kyhesha-Lee Joughin will spend the next nine years behind bars for her manslaughter.

Matthew Lee Williamson, 32, will have to serve 80 per cent of his sentence after Brisbane Supreme Court Justice Roslyn Atkinson deemed it a serious violent offence.

Williamson had earlier pleaded guilty to his daughter's manslaughter based on the fact he didn't seek medical attention for her.

He denied causing her fatal injury, but the sentencing justice found otherwise.

Justice Atkinson said on Thursday she was satisfied Williamson had delivered a punch three days before his daughter's death that was so powerful it perforated her bowel.

Justice Atkinson said his failure to take her to a doctor ensured her injury became fatal.

Justice Atkinson said Kyhesha had lived in a "depraved and disgusting environment", which included being locked in her bedroom by a rope that Williamson would tie to her door and his bed, sometimes for 17 hours a day.

She said the toddler had also been sexually abused and while it was not known who was responsible, her father had been "callously indifferent" to it.
