Out on bail and forgot your court date?

Fail to Appear warrants could become a thing of the past with SMS reminders to be sent to adults on bail due to reappear in Queensland courts.

From Friday, they will receive an SMS reminder 24 hours before their next court appearance as a regional pilot project is expanded statewide.

Queensland Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath says the text appointment reminder was designed to save the courts time and costs.

"It is a significant inconvenience for the courts, and all the parties involved in a matter, when a defendant fails to attend court," she says in a statement on Friday.

The pilot started at Mackay Magistrates Court to try to reduce the number of Fail to Appear warrants, which are often issued as soon as someone fails to turn up.
