Cop granted bail over fatal Qld crash
A police officer charged with causing a fatal car crash in southern Queensland has been granted bail.
Fabio Mazza was allegedly involved in a crash that killed a woman who was riding on the back of a motorbike on the Warrego Highway at Wallumbilla, east of Roma, in May 2014.
The 29-year-old appeared briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday and was granted bail to reappear on July 20.
The policeman has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm.
Mazza's lawyers will argue he was attempting a u-turn to intercept a speeding vehicle when the crash occurred.
A motorbike, which was travelling behind Mazza's car, wasn't speeding when it collided with the police car.
The female motorbike passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police ethical standards are also investigating the crash.
