Cladding from Logan hospital fails test

Cladding drawn from part of Logan Hospital will undergo further testing in Victoria after it failed combustibility tests in Queensland.

The state government made the announcement on Saturday after samples from the site's expansion block, which makes up 13 per cent of the whole facility, were sent to the University of Queensland for testing.

"The results indicate that whilst all materials tested demonstrate some degree of fire retardation and capacity to self-extinguish, each product was however capable of ignition," Housing and Public Works Minister Mick de Brenni said.

"(It) therefore failed the combustibility test."

Independent fire engineers were subsequently enlisted and have recommended further testing at a specialist facility in Victoria take place, he said.

Mr de Brenni also announced three other properties being examined by a state government taskforce have been given the all-clear: a mutli-storey social housing property in Brisbane, a Gold Coast school and an apartment block in the Moreton Bay region.

Health Minister Cameron Dick said the hospital was safe and there were "comprehensive" safety measures in place, as well as a boosted security presence.

"We think the risk of anything happening is quite low at Logan Hospital," he said.
