Central Qld fires maybe deliberately lit

Fires that threatened central Queensland homes may have been deliberately lit, emergency services say.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews have been called to more than 75 fires in the region in the past fortnight, including two large fronts north of Rockhampton that prompted warnings for residents to evacuate on Monday.

"It is very concerning that these fires may have been deliberately lit and QFES are taking a serious stance and will be investigating suspicious fires," Assistant Commissioner for Central Region Ewan Cayzer said.
