Car breakdown leads to Qld drug charges

Two people are facing drugs charges after north Queensland police stumbled upon a stash of ice in a broken down car.

Officers were called to the Bruce Highway at Rungoo, north of Townsville, early Tuesday after reports of a disturbance near the vehicle.

After searching the car, police allegedly found 160 grams of methamphetamine, worth about $160,000.

A man and a woman have both been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and other related offences.

The 55-year-old man from Tolga appeared in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody until reappearing in May.

The woman, 26, will appear in the Tully Magistrates Court in April.
