'Candyman' wins Supercar injunction

A colourful Gold Coast tobacco tycoon has won an injunction to stop a V8 Supercar team racing in his corporate colours on the weekend.

Travers "Candyman" Beynon sat in the Supreme Court in Brisbane on Thursday as Justice James Douglas granted the injunction.

The court order means themed detailing will be removed from the Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport cars ahead of the upcoming Townsville 400.

It's part of a civil claim launched by the businessman's Freechoice tobacco franchise accusing them of backtracking on a $6 million sponsorship deal to launch a Candyman-branded team in the Supercar Championship.

Speaking on his client's behalf, lawyer Brendan Nyst said Mr Beynon was happy with the day's outcome.

His legal team also successfully secured terms to an order relating to a $250,000 sum allegedly already paid to Lucas Dumbrell Investments.

On his official website, the businessman is described as "a combination of Hugh Hefner, The Wolf of Wall Street, Tony Stark and Jay Gatsby rolled up in a Versace suit".

He did not comment to waiting media as he left the court precinct.

A date has not yet been set for a full hearing.
