A Canadian teenager holidaying in Australia has been slapped with fraud charges after allegedly skimming a man's credit card details to book accommodation at a Queensland resort.

The fraud came to light after a NSW man noticed discrepancies on his credit card statement, including an online accommodation booking for a Noosa resort on the hotspot's popular strip, Hastings Street.

He told the hotel, who then called the police when four men turned up on May 20 to check in.

The 18-year-old tourist has been charged with multiple offences, including two counts of fraud, and is expected to front Noosa Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The case highlighted the importance of scrutinising your own credit card statements to check for anything suspicious, Sunshine Coast District Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards said.

"Keep a close eye on transactions and if anything appears out of the ordinary, then notify the police and your bank," he advised.
