Council handed Cairns house where eight kids murdered

The family of eight Queensland children who died in a Cairns home will attend a ceremony to hand the site of their house to the city's council.
The four girls and four boys, aged between two and 14 years, were found in their Manoora home in December last year.
The Murray Street property was demolished in June to the relief of locals who viewed it as a sombre reminder of the shocking events that unfolded just weeks before Christmas.
There are plans to unveil a permanent memorial on the first anniversary of the tragedy.
The next step in that process will see Queensland's Department of Housing officially hand over the land to the Cairns Regional Council during a gathering on Friday.
The mother of seven of the children, and aunt to the eighth, 37-year-old Raina Mersane Ina Thaiday, has been charged with the murders.
The matter, which is expected to go to the Mental Health Court, was in August adjourned until November 25.
