Building boss charged over home reno scam

A former supervisor at a Queensland government construction firm used taxpayer money to fund more than three years' worth of home renovations, police say.

Police have charged a 49-year-old former QBuild supervisor with fraud after he allegedly approved 289 fraudulent invoices from July 2009 to August 2012.

It's claimed the total value of the invoices is just over $291,000 and the charge relates to the man allegedly attempting to charge work conducted on his home to a work account.

The man resigned from his role with QBuild, now Building and Asset Services and part of Queensland's department of Housing and Public Works, in August 2012.

Further charges are expected to be laid as police investigations continue and the man will face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon.
