Brisbane torture accused seeks freedom

One of the men charged over the torture of a Queensland woman is seeking to be released from custody so he can live at the scene of the alleged crime.

Former professional soccer player Jeromy Harris was last week charged over the alleged torture of Tanya Nicole Roberts, who remains in hospital in a critical condition.

It is alleged Ms Roberts was injured by her boyfriend Nicholas John Crilley at a hotel and driven to Harris's Bulimba rental, where she was found by police on July 2.

Magistrate John Costello denied Harris bail on Friday after he found there was no evidence the financial planner had "acted with any kind of humanity" when learning of Ms Roberts's injuries.

Text messages found on Harris' phone allegedly showed he knew the woman was at his home and in "an injured state".

"He knew she had been burned," Sergeant Matt Kahler told the court on Friday.

"He knew that she smelt like death."

Solicitor Remy Kurtz has stated Harris played no part in the horrific assault of the 21-year-old victim and was merely an "accessory after the fact".

In a fresh bid for bail, Harris states he is prepared to comply with any conditions imposed on him in order to released from custody.

Documents filed in the Brisbane Supreme Court show the 41-year-old wishes to reside at his Bulimba home while waiting to stand trial.

"I intend on contesting the charges which are before the court," the documents state.

Harris's bail hearing is set down for Thursday.
