Brisbane man denied bail after siege

A Brisbane man has been remanded in custody after allegedly brandishing a replica handgun amid a lengthy stand-off with police.

Anthony John Callum Hawkins, 42, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday on a raft of charges, including two counts of serious assault of police whilst pretending to be armed.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Sean Franklin told the court Hawkins pointed a replica handgun "directly" at two uniformed police officers after becoming embroiled in a stand-off at a Windsor apartment on Sunday morning.

He said an emergency situation was then declared, with Hawkins eventually taken into custody about four hours after police first arrived.

Opposing bail, Sgt Franklin said there was a strong crown case and actual time behind bars was "a likely event" if Hawkins was convicted of the charges.

Magistrate Terry Gardiner ultimately rejected conditions for bail suggested by the defence and refused the application, deeming Hawkins an unacceptable risk of not appearing.

The matter will return to court on May 10.
