Brisbane cafe's bacon ban

A Brisbane cafe has reportedly been banned from cooking bacon after a bridal store next door complained about the smell.

Gramercy Coffee was told by Wintergarden centre management they could no longer cook the legendarily tasty breakfast meat after Winnie Bridal said the smell of it "permeated" their store, the Courier Mail has reported.

Cafe owner Mitchell Suchowacki said the cafe had served bacon for two years without any issue.

He said the ban was frustrating.

"The biggest thing was the shock of not knowing anything about it and then having this massive drama arise overnight," he said.

However, the centre management said Gramercy had never been permitted to cook bacon, under the terms of the cafe's lease.

Mr Suchowacki said he regretted the matter had become official, and that he would have preferred to work out an agreement with the aggrieved party.

In the meantime, Gramercy has replaced bacon on its menu with jamon.
