Brisbane autumn off to a hot start

After sweltering through a record-breaking summer, the start of autumn has brought no respite to Brisbane residents, with temperatures expected to remain above 30C for the next week.

The Bureau of Meteorology says there is a strong chance of showers every day until the middle of next week, and warned the UV index would remain extreme.

Maximum temperatures of 30C are tipped for Brisbane on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, before hitting 31C from Sunday to next Wednesday.

February's heatwave broke 17 records across the state, with Thargomindah hitting 47.2C on February 12, the hottest February day in Queensland history.

That same heatwave saw Toowoomba, Gatton, Kingaroy and Oakey all record their hottest day in history.

Brisbane recorded a scorching 30-day run of maximum temperatures over 30C, which only ended on the weekend.

Nights were just as oppressive, with the average minimum of 22C the highest in nearly 40 years.
