Boy charged over threats at Gold Coast high school

A 13-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly making threats to a school on the Gold Coast.

Police say threatening text messages were sent to the phones of several students at the school on Oceanic Drive in Miami, prompting staff to implement standard internal security procedures and notify police.

A 13-year-old boy was located in Surfers Paradise by police just after 1.30pm on Friday.

He was charged with one count each of using a carriage service to make a threat to cause serious harm, unlawful possession of a weapon category A, B or M, possession of a knife in a public place or school and receiving tainted property.

The boy will be will dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
