Family devastated after Rockhampton bones identified as suspected murder victim

The family of suspected murder victim Robert Martinez say they are devastated to hear bones found on a Rockhampton property are his.

Police have confirmed a skull and other bones found at the property on Bowlin Rd, Rockhampton, last week, belonged to Martinez.

"Obviously this is not the outcome we were hoping for," the family said.

"As much as we were thinking this may have been Robert, to actually have it confirmed has devastated Rob's whole family.

"We were all hoping for a miracle.

"Robert meant everything to us.

"We still can't believe this is happening."

Police believe Martinez was murdered along with his housemate, Chantal Barnett, whose handbag was also found on the property.

The pair disappeared in the Mt Archer area in March 2013, and police have offered a $250,000 reward to anyone who can help solve the case.

They have taken more than 400 statements since Martinez and Ms Barnett disappeared.

Police are continuing their extensive search of the property, where they found a car and wallet belonging to Martinez last year.
