Police are trying to identify a man's body found on a beach north of Brisbane.

A police spokesman says they were called out to Scarborough Beach, near Redcliffe, about 5.10am after the body was found.

"We still haven't got any confirmation yet as to whether it was suspicious or not," the spokesman told AAP.

"They're (police) making inquiries now to find out who the man actually is and obviously how he came to be on the beach."

The deceased man is believed to be 40-60 years old.
