Queensland MP Billy Gordon recovering from heart attack

Embattled Queensland MP Billy Gordon is recovering after being released from a Cairns hospital where he was treated for a mild heart attack.

Mr Gordon has absented himself from this week's parliamentary sittings as he requires a few days' rest before returning to work.

The independent member for Cook, who was forced out of the Labor party last year for failing to disclose his criminal history, had surgery on Saturday after experiencing tightness in his chest and difficulty breathing the day before.

He was released from hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
