Bail application likely for ex-AFL player

Former Brisbane Lions player Albert Proud is expected to apply for bail next week after spending two months in custody already for allegedly bashing his girlfriend.

Proud is facing an attempted murder charge, among other offences, after he allegedly attacked the woman at a Sunnybank home last November.

He did not appear when his case was mentioned in the Holland Park Magistrates Court on Monday.

His lawyer Kris Jahnke told the court his client planned to apply for bail at the next hearing, set down for January 18.

He said he had received a partial brief from police but was still waiting on some medical material to be provided.

Magistrate Sheryl Cornack chided prosecutors for taking too long to get the brief together and said the case should've required "prompt attention".

"This is outrageous that a man is in custody and we can't get a brief in two months," she said, noting Proud was first remanded on November 9.

The magistrate ordered Proud appear at next Monday's hearing after Mr Jahnke assured her he would remain "calm".

Proud, who played 29 games for the Lions in a stop-start career from 2007-10, is also charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.
