ATO building safe after powder scare

Workers have returned to Brisbane's Australian Tax Office building after a powdery substance in a piece of mail "wasn't anything suspicious", say police.

The eighth floor of the Elizabeth Street building in the CBD was evacuated about 9am on Tuesday.

The substance was tested by the Queensland Fire Service and given the all-clear and workers were allowed to return at about 11am, say police.
