Alleged Rockhampton truck thief charged

A Rockhampton man has been charged after allegedly stealing a truck from a local transport depot, only to be nabbed three hours later.

The 34-year-old is accused of stealing the vehicle at about 8.25pm (AEST) on Friday in North Rockhampton.

About 20 minutes later, police tried to stop him but he allegedly ran a red light and got away.

He was eventually intercepted in Sarina just before midnight.

He's since been charged with multiple offences and will front the Mackay Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.
