Adani to fight sediment release charge

Adani will plead not guilty to releasing sediment water eight times over the allowed limit into the Great Barrier Reef during Cyclone Debbie in 2017.

Bowen Magistrates Court was told on Tuesday that Adani would go to trial on July 22 over allegations its Abbot Point Bulkcoal (APB) arm of the company broke a temporary emissions licence over the discharge at the Abbot Point coal terminal during the storm.

APB has continually denied the charge - which carries a maximum penalty of $2.7 million - which will be prosecuted by Queensland's Department of Environment and Science.
