Adani mine faces another legal hurdle

Adani is facing a fresh legal battle over its planned Carmichael coal mine, a day after announcing workforce arrangements for the long-awaited project.

The Wangan and Jagalingou Traditional Owners Council has instructed lawyers to file an appeal against a Queensland government decision to issue leases for the mine before other court proceedings had finished.

The move comes a day after the Indian mining giant and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk revealed workforce arrangements for the project, which will prioritise local workers.

It's the fourth simultaneous legal action by the group, with spokesman Adrian Burragubba saying a "legal line of defence" is being constructed because Adani and the State are trying to "bulldoze" them.

"We will not stand by while they sing from the same song sheet about their grandiose but hollow plans," he said.

"We are acting in the courts to stop this destructive project."

Ms Palaszczuk met with Adani representatives in Townsville on Tuesday to announce the final arrangements for the $21.7 billion project in the Galilee Basin.

She said it would have a lifespan of 60 years, creating "generational" jobs.
