Accused race ranter case back in court

The case of a Queensland teenager accused of racially abusing a security guard on a Brisbane train has been mentioned in court.

Abdel-Kader Russell-Boumzar, 17, is on bail and didn't appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

The teenager was arrested last month after footage was posted online showing a racially-charged tirade being directed at security guard Josphat Mkhwananzi on October 2.

Mr Mkhwananzi was subjected to a five minute, expletive-laden rant in which he was told to "learn some english" and allegedly spat on.

In court, Russell-Boumzar's lawyer Trent Jones asked for his client's case to be adjourned to committal callover.

The matter was adjourned until December 8.

Russell-Boumzar has not entered a plea to charges of serious assault, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault, making threats, creating a disturbance and using a carriage service to menace.

He faces a possible jail sentence if convicted.
