A Facebook feud led to the stabbing of a 15-year-old student near a Gold Coast school.

The boy remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital after undergoing surgery following Tuesday's attack about 200 metres from his school at Miami.

He suffered a single stab wound to his stomach and another 15-year-old boy has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

The charged boy and another teen, also 15, have also been accused of armed robbery.

Friends of the warring teens have told The Courier-Mail the stabbing was the result of an escalating feud that began with a spat on Facebook.

Detective Inspector Mark White said such extreme violence on the streets was very worrying.

"We definitely are concerned about this level of violence on the streets so close to a school," he told the paper.

"There are other ways to mediate issues without resorting to violence and in this case, extreme violence."
