13 emergency calls a minute in Qld storms

Queensland authorities performed more than 50 swift water rescues during a relentless deluge on Friday.

At the height of the downpour, there were 4000 triple zero calls made and 761 incidents reported to the Queensland Fire and Emergence Service, police minister Jo-Ann Miller said.

She urged Queensland residents to pay attention to road closures after five people drowned while trying to drive through fast-moving water at Caboolture, north of Brisbane.

"Please don't ignore our messages because you're also risking the lives of emergency services personnel ... its really not fair on them either," Ms Miller said.
