108 Queenslanders for Queen's Honours

A lauded university professor, a mayor who campaigned tirelessly for high-speed internet and one of Brisbane's most iconic business women are among the Queenslanders being honoured in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours.

Vice-chancellor and president of Griffith University, Professor Ian O'Connor, has been made a Companion to the Order of Australia for his work in the tertiary education sector.

Queenslander Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Professor O'Connor, who is also the chair of the Queensland Art Gallery Board of Trustees, had been recognised for his "eminent service" in the field.

She also praised former State Minister Anne Warner for her advocacy for women in the criminal justice system, as well as Micah Projects chief executive Karyn Walsh, both of whom have been appointed Members of the Order of Australia.

Fashion designer Keri Craig-Lee has also received a Medal in the General Division of the Order of Australia for her work in clothing manufacturing and business.

"It is tremendous that one of Brisbane's most iconic business women and talented designers has been recognised with an honour," Ms Palaszczuk said.

Barcoo Shire Council mayor Bruce Scott has also received a Medal, for his "instrumental" efforts in pushing for high-speed internet for his community.
