Qld police shut down wild party

Queensland police have used their new powers to break up a wild party north of Brisbane with 250 revellers.

Officers arrived at the Narangba party just after 8pm (AEST) on Friday to find under-age drinkers, who were later fined.

The host agreed to break up the get-together, but police were forced patrol the area around the train station for hours until all the party-goers left.

Laws passed in February gave police more powers to break up out-of-control parties.

Organisers, parents or gate-crashers face a maximum penalty of 12 months jail or a fine of $12,100, and if police face violence when shutting down an event, organisers can be fined up to $18,150 or face three years in prison.
