Queensland and the Northern Territory have completed the final steps to joining the national redress scheme for people who experienced child sexual abuse in institutions.

Federal Families Minister Paul Fletcher said the state and territory join NSW, Victoria, the ACT and Tasmania in taking part in the scheme.

"I encourage the remaining states, along with non-government institutions, to work quickly and make the scheme accessible to survivors throughout Australia," Mr Fletcher said in a statement on Thursday.
