Gable Tostee murder trial over Kiwi tourist's death to begin today

Queensland's biggest trial of the year will begin today, when Gable Tostee fronts the Brisbane Supreme Court charged with the murder of New Zealand tourist Warriena Tagpuno Wright.

The Gold Coast man is accused of killing Ms Wright, 26, who he met on the dating app Tinder while she was visiting Australia.

She was on a two-week vacation to attend a friend's wedding and met Mr Tostee, a carpet layer, at the end of her trip.

Ms Wright was found dead at the base of the high-rise Avalon Apartments unit in Surfers Paradise in the early hours of August 8, 2014.

She had fallen from the 14th floor balcony of Mr Tostee's unit.

The following week, Mr Tostee was arrested at his parents' house and charged with murder.

He has pleaded not guilty and will be represented by high-profile barrister Saul Holt QC.

The Brisbane Supreme Court is expected to be packed from 10am, when the trial starts before Justice John Byrne.

It is expected to take seven to eight days.
