Queensland man charged with weapons offences following Brisbane shootings

Queensland police have charged a man with a raft of weapons offences, following two shootings in Brisbane yesterday – including one incident that saw a man allegedly gunned down in the car park of a Red Rooster after an altercation.

Yesterday afternoon, a 30-year-old Bowen Hills man turned up at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital yesterday with a gunshot wound. Police allege he had met another man in the car park of the Clayfield Red Rooster outlet, only to be shot when an argument ensued.

About 5am the same day, a 29-year-old Kallangur man was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries to his legs and buttocks.

Investigations into both shootings are still ongoing, but about 9pm last night police intercepted a car on Kingaroy Street, Stafford Heights, after it was allegedly spotted driving around with false number plate.

While searching the vehicle, police allege they found a sawn off shotgun, a knife and drugs.

The 28-year-old driver was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a shortened firearm, receiving tainted property, possession of explosives and possession of a knife in a public place.

Police allege the vehicle was owned by a family member of the victim of the Clayfield shooting.

The 28-year-old will face Brisbane Magistrates court later today.
