The victim of an alleged road rage attack on a southeast Queensland motorway has woken from a coma.

Brock Prime, 29, has been at Gold Coast University Hospital since the incident on the M1 at Yatala on February 24.

On Thursday the tradie's Instagram account featured a picture of Mr Prime awake in a hospital bed with a partially shaved head and tubes coming from his nose.

Within eight hours of being posted the image had gathered 71 likes and dozens of comments.

It's a dramatic recovery for Mr Prime, who suffered a critical head injury in the attack, which left his brain exposed.

Doctors told his family the organ had been infected with dirt and he faced a "day-by-day" battle to survive.

Ryan Hallifax, Jonathan Lawrence, 26, and Jordan Baklas, 27, have since faced court charged with grievous bodily harm.

Lawrence remains in custody while Hallifax and Baklas were released on bail.

All three men are set to have their matters mentioned in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on May 2.
