The Queensland government has invested $5 million to encourage heart attack victims to go into cardiac rehabilitation to reduce their risk of another attack.

Health Minister Cameron Dick said cardiac rehabilitation has been shown to reduce a heart attack sufferer's return visit to hospital in the first year by as much as 45 per cent.

"This funding will provide an incentive for our hospital and health services to implement the right systems to boost referrals to the many cardiac rehabilitation services that are currently available," Mr Dick said.
