Qantas flight from Adelaide to Perth turned back over paperwork issue

A Qantas flight from Adelaide to Perth was turned back as "the correct paperwork had not been finalised".

Flight QF887, an Airbus A330, was on its way from Adelaide to Perth at 3.23pm ACDT yesterday.

But mid-air, over the Great Australian Bite, the paperwork issue was identified and the flight had to turn back to Adelaide to finalise it, Qantas told 9news.com.au.

Qantas confirmed there were no technical issues on the flight.

After finalising the correct paperwork, passengers landed at their destination in Perth four hours later than scheduled.

9News requested details of the paperwork.

This comes as several Qantas flights have been turned back over the past week but the Civil Aviation Safety Authority claims the airline is "operating safely and has confidence in its safety management systems".

"CASA actively reviews and monitors the aviation industry, using regular surveillance, frequent engagement with airlines to review incidents and trends and works closely with the ATSB to scrutinise safety reports, findings and data," CASA said on Friday.

Qantas International and Domestic CEO Andrew David told 2GB yesterday there are "absolutely no issues" with the airline.

It comes as a Qantas flight from Nadi in Fiji to Sydney turned back on Sunday after passengers could reportedly smell fumes in the cabin.

Two flights out of Melbourne had to turn back and land on Friday.

On Thursday a Sydney-Fiji flight had to turn back as a precaution over a potential mechanical issue.

On Wednesday, an Auckland to Sydney flight lost use of an engine and made a mayday call before downgrading it to a PAN (possible assistance needed).

"They were all completely different issues and I personally would be more worried about the airlines that don't turn back compared to those that do in those situations," David said yesterday.
