PUP's coffers to remain secret for now

The coffers of Clive Palmer's political party won't be laid bare when the Australian Electoral Commission releases its annual financial disclosure returns.

The AEC will release the data publicly at 9am on Monday but those curious about the Palmer United Party's financial books will be disappointed.

The disclosure includes political parties' revenue, expenditure, debts and donations above $12,100 for the previous financial year.

But the PUP was officially registered with the AEC on July 5 last year, so its financial position for the 2013-14 financial year will be released in February 2015.

It's also going to be a long wait to find out what political parties spent on the 2013 election campaign.

That data won't come out until next February because it's incorporated into next year's annual financial disclosure returns.

However, individual candidates and Senate groups will have their election campaign spending released on February 24.
