Punches thrown as ugly brawl erupts outside café in broad daylight

Cameras have captured a violent fight breaking out on the doorstep of a popular café in Melbourne’s south-east.

Video exclusively obtained by 9NEWS shows a man punching another man of smaller stature outside the outlet in Dandenong about 12.30pm.

The taller man repeatedly throws punches at his victim, at one point holding him in a headlock as he beats his head.

Witnesses, including passer-by Usman Qureshi and a juice shop worker, can been seen attempting to intervene.

“We just ended up jumping on top of them and pulling them apart and telling them to go their own ways,” Mr Qureshi told 9NEWS.

Another onlooker, Gemma Radford, described the November 1 incident as “scary”.

“I was standing inside just watching and I was a little bit stunned,” Ms Radford told 9NEWS of the ordeal.

It’s understood the confrontation was sparked when one of the men involved in the fight threatened a woman inside the local library, around the corner from the café.

Council security guards were called to the scene, who arrived as the men separated.
