Porn uploaded to public screens in Perth hack attack

A hack attack that saw pornographic images broadcast on a public touchscreen left people bewildered in Perth's Yagan Square yesterday.

The home page of explicit video website Pornhub was uploaded to one of the two-metre interactive map screens by a mall entrance yesterday evening.

About 80,000 people pass through the new Yagan Square precinct every day, but it remains a mystery how many, if any, tried to interact with the screen when the pornographic images were up.

The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority has begun an investigation into who uploaded images.

An MRA spokeswoman admitted the inappropriate content was on show for a brief period of time.

A second screen at the other end of the mall also appeared to have been compromised, but did not display offensive content.

"Both screens were immediately turned off and power has also been switched off to the units to eliminate all possibilities of a recurrence," the spokeswoman said.

"The MRA takes this matter very seriously and will undertake a full investigation to understand how this event has happened and identify those responsible."

The $70 million Yagan Square precinct was opened just last month, but with the current incident, concerns have already been raised over its security.
