The Abbott government's second budget has delivered it only a slight boost in the polls.

A ReachTel-Seven poll has the coalition's primary vote up almost 1.5 points to 41.1, while Labor is down one point to 38.3.

After preferences, the government still trails Labor 53-47, the poll of 3000 conducted a day after the budget showed.

Only 16 per cent of those polled believe they will be better off, 30 per cent worse off and more than half felt they wouldn't be affected.

Forty-five per cent felt Joe Hockey was the best salesman, but only slightly more than Scott Morrison at 43 per cent, while Tony Abbott had 12 per cent of support.
