Australia's public broadcasters will get more than $4 billion in funding over the three years from 2019.

The federal budget shows the ABC will receive $3.2 billion in the period, while the SBS will receive $851.8 million.

The ABC will receive a little more in 2019/20 than it did the year before, with a funding increase from $1.05 billion to $1.06 billion.

That comes as funding for the broadcaster from other sources is expected to drop a little between the years.

Staffing levels are expected to remain the same at 4180.

The funding over three years for the ABC will include $43.7 million to continue enhanced local coverage of news and current affairs, especially in regional areas.

The money heading towards the SBS over that period will include $29.6 million to guarantee the quality of its services.

The broadcaster's staffing is also forecast to remain at 1149.
