Specialist police have defused a homemade pipe bomb found under a truck at Arundel on the Gold Coast.

The bomb squad had surrounded the truck after receiving reports of a possible explosive device at the Brisbane Road site about 11am.

A mobile X-ray machine was used to analyse the device, and an exclusion zone was declared between Kendor Street, Telford Place and the Gold Coast Highway.

The device has since been defused, and police have confirmed it was a PVC pipe containing explosives.

Guns and ammunition were also found in the truck, police said.
