A mobile X-ray machine was used to analyse the device, and an exclusion zone was declared between Kendor Street, Telford Place and the Gold Coast Highway.
The device has since been defused, and police have confirmed it was a PVC pipe containing explosives.
Guns and ammunition were also found in the truck, police said.
