WA Police said in a statement the suspect had been diagnosed as HIV positive in August 2014, and had been working as a transgender sex worker in Redfern before being arrested.

Police will apply to extradite the 38-year-old to Perth in Central Local Court today.

Anyone who has had unprotected sex with someone whose sexual health status is not known has been advised by the WA Health Department to visit their GP or a sexual health clinic for testing.

The accused’s name has not been revealed by police.
