Recall issued for batch of Chlorofluor Gel mouthwash after infection outbreak

A product recall has been issued for the antibacterial mouthwash Chlorofluor Gel, following an infection outbreak in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
South Australia Health said high levels of the bacteria Burkholderia cepacia had been detected in a sample of unopened bottles of the mouthwash from the batch BK 119.
Earlier this week, patients at the RAH were restricted to ice machines and bottled water after an infection outbreak was blamed on the contaminated mouthwash, Adelaide Now reported.
The bacteria is unlikely to cause infection in healthy people, but can strike those already with an illness or condition which compromises their immune system, the newspaper reported.
The mouthwash is sold in chemists as well as used in hospitals.
"Anyone in the community who has the product should check the batch number, located on the bottle label, and if it batch number BK119, discontinue use," SA Health said.
