Prisoner transfer deal with India begins

A prisoner transfer deal between Australia and India will start later this month.

The agreement, signed in 2014, will enable Australians in Indian jails to apply to serve the remaining part of their sentences in Australia, and vice versa for Indian prisoners in Australia.

The deal comes into force for Australia on December 21.
